Koh Tonsay

We are finally Cambodia bound after our two week windsurfing break in Mui Ne, Vietnam. Below we are in the small border town of Ha Tien, Vietnam. We arrived at midnight and spent the night before making the one hour motorbike taxi ride to Kep, Cambodia. It doesn't get many Western visitors so we were a prize catch for our two motorbike taxi drivers who, after gratefully taking us to the only open guesthouse the night before, we hired to take us through the border.

This was our last Vietnam meal. Squid soup at 8am before going to the border

Kep, Cambodia is where the fishing boats wait to ferry people to Koh Tonsay island. It is also known as Rabbit Island although we saw no rabbits.

Arrival was directly onto the beach in front of whichever bungalow the Captain decided to take us to.
We walked the beach, all of five minutes, picking out our bungalow for the next few days and settled on this quaint little one for $6 per night.
While we were having breakfast an entourage of dignitaries came strolling down the beach. It turns out it was the leader of the Cambodian Rescue Party, Sam Rainsy. He won 45% of the vote in the recent election and lost the race to the incumbent dictator. The results are under protest in the capital city although many people are scared to show public support for him for fear of losing their homes and businesses as punishment. He is in the middle with the red and black stripes.
There couldn't have been more than 40 people on the island but it had its own Police Station
We loved our four days of relaxing in hammocks, eating fresh seafood, and playing in the bioluminescence after the generator power was turned off at 9pm nightly (it was only on from 5pm-9pm). Staying here reminded us a lot of a weekend away at Ivan's.
