Dive Liveaboard, Andaman Sea

Similan and Surin Islands, Thailand

Merry Christmas to us! We decided to take care of Christmas presents to each other here in Asia and we decided it would be a liveaboard dive boat trip for four nights with four dives a day. Khao Lak was the stepping off point for most of the trips. We checked in at our shop, geared up, loaded in the taxis (16 of us) and headed to the pier.

It was a really enjoyable experience and we would certainly sign up to do another one. Really great diving, good food and a truly casual and fun time diving all day long and relaxing in between with everything taken care of. One of the highlight dives was at Richelieu Rock which was "discovered" by Jacques Cousteau in 1988 and was determined to be one of his top ten dive sites in the world. He arrived in the area and asked the local fisherman to take him to a place they catch lots of fish and thus discovered the rock pinnacle which rises 35 meters from the ocean floor and stops just below the surface.

Our hotel at sea
The covered top deck
The uncovered top deck
The middle deck where we ate and had dive briefings
Good morning calls at 6:30am for our first dive at 7:15am
We had a BBQ one night and the charcoal needed a little more air!
Not the Baths but the Similan Islands have the same geological makeup
