Jakarta, Indonesia

We spent two days in Jakarta during our short Indonesia stay but never in a hotel. One day on the way to the Derawan islands and one day on the way to southern Thailand when we were leaving. When we arrived it was 10pm and after clearing customs and immigrations we found ourselves outside the airport on a shuttle to the domestic terminal where our next flight was scheduled for 5am. We figured a quick nap in the terminal would be easier than trying to find a hotel for three or four hours. As it turns out the terminal was not a 24 hour one. There was a 24 hour A&W fast food place so we pulled up two chairs and took turns sleeping on the street just outside the airport.

Our second stop in Jakarta was better planned and since we had a six hour layover we decided to hire a driver and go see a couple of sights. First we went to the Indonesian Maritime muesum which was interesting but not really too exciting. Then our driver asked us where we wanted to go and when we told him the mall he gave us a confused look and said, " most people want to see the city center in old town". We went to the mall as requested because we were looking for an authentic Kopi Luwak distributor. Many places have advertised Weasel coffee or Civet coffee or shown a picture of a cat on their coffee but we wanted the real thing. 100% wild harvested Kopi Luwak, the most expensive coffee in the world. It may have been the hype but it really did taste excellent, very smooth and almost a faint hint of chocolate.
